Email Marketing: Do’s and Don’ts In Compliance With Email Marketing Regulation

Sending an email blast out to all your clients? Emails are a good way to reach your clients. They are not as intrusive as a phone call as your client can access it anytime he is available. There are some points which you may want to take note of when writing up your email contents. This is especially so if you are doing your email sending in Singapore where anti-spam regulation are in place.

For the subject title of your email, do remember the following:

  1. add an tag. The tag practice is used in several countries beside Singapore and is a must have if you want to avoid having an unnecessary law suit filed against you.
  2. avoid using spam like words such as free, offer, best etc.
  3. avoid typing in all caps. For example, “WORK TODAY, REAP THE REWARDS TOMORROW.” is never a good. way to avoid getting into the junk mail. Instead write “Work Today, Reap The Rewrdas Tomorrow.”
  4. Use good punctuation.

By following the above for the subject title of your email, you can lower the possibility that your email would end up in the junk mail of the receiver while complying with the law in Singapore with regards to email sending.

For the content of the email always ensure the following:

  1. use as much html as possible. Most providers strip away jpg file leaving just html for the receiver to read. Sending an email that consist of only jpg and your reader will receive only a blank email.
  2. avoid using jpeg unless where needed. For example, background color and text should be in html.
  3. Remember to have the unsubscribe link. This is needed once again in compliance with the regulation set by the Singapore government. Most email marketing system in the market would have a built-in function that allows automatio in terms of removing email address from the date base for email address that have chosen to unsubscribe.
  4. Provide links to your website. One common mistake is to cramp in as much information as you can into your email. An email should be kept short and sweet. The reader has to know what your email is about in a few sentence. Failure to do so would result in the likely hood of your email being trashed. Keep all additional information on your site and provide links to them would be sufficient.

The above few tips would help ensure that your emails have a higher possibility of reaching the inbox of the email address you are sending. Such good practice also help prevent your company from being branded as a spam organization.
