When you are putting together a marketing strategy for your business, you want to make sure that whatever technique you choose is both cost effective and provides a high return on your investment. Try to get these rates in the phone book, print ads, etc. In addition, since your marketing is extremely targeted to your clients and prospects your conversion rate is going to be a lot higher than a generic 1%. Couple that with the low cost per subscriber and you can see why it is very cost effective.

Another component of your email marketing strategy is the ROI (return on investment). The ROI is one of the most important metrics, if not the most important for any marketing campaign. Based on a DMA economic-impact study, e-mail’s ROI far outshines other online marketing channels. Email marketing generated an ROI of $43.62 for every dollar spent on it in 2009. That is, spend $1 and make $43.62. Not too bad!

Email List ROI Tips

1. Keep your email list updated. The more people in your list the more you are going to pay, so make sure that remove those emails which got soft-bounced and hard-bounced 5 times from your list. Or any client or prospect that gives you trouble.

2. Make sure you get your email address white-listed. You do this by contacting your ISP or through your email marketing company to get your email sending address or IP address white-listed. (NOTE: This is automatic with aweber.com). The more ISPs that white list your address, the more messages will be delivered to clients’ Inbox. Also, it’s a good idea when a user subscribes to your email list that you tell them to enter your email address in their contacts so it will not be sent to their spam or junk folder.

3. Select a cost effective platform. For most ESP’s, they charge based on the number of email subscribers (as they do with aweber). Therefore, you only need to pay a small amount ($19) to start building your list.
