After you have attended an in person marketing, networking, social event and want to follow up with everyone you have met, these are the steps to follow.

Set up a series of 5 email marketing messages in an Autoresponder series and send to everyone you have met. Sample AutoResponders to use: Weber, Mailchimp, iContact, Constant Contact and one that is completely free for any size list, OpenEMM.

Here’s a brief outline for the content of the 5 messages:

Send the day following the event

1) Hello and Thank You, it was nice to connect with you at…I’m going to be sending you a series of email tips that I think you will find useful about:

  • Social Media Marketing
  • Internet Marketing
  • Starting a Business…. (choose a relevant topic of interest).

This is your opt in email, where they give you permission to send future messages by confirming their email and opting in. You pick a topic and create 3 short, content specific relevant tips, questions, mistakes etc. and make them educational and informative.

Examples:

  1. · 3 common mistakes an internet marketer usually makes when starting an online business
  2. · 3 questions to ask your webmaster before you hire them
  3. · 3 mistakes a person makes when buying their first home, car, etc.

Make sure each tip contains:

  • Main teaching objective
  • Teaching high point
  • Practical application

Communicating in this fashion builds trust and confidence in you and your brand and keeps your reader interested. Use powerful, descriptive action words in each email tip message.

5) Send a special offer to your acquaintance to buy something from you. Keep it light, informative and not too salesy.

This could be something you published, an upcoming teleseminar, an invite to a speaking engagement. Etc.

The final step would be to add this prospect to your monthly email newsletter communication and keep in touch with them as an ongoing prospect.

Clate Mask and Scot Martineau founders of Infusionsoft and authors of the book, Conquer the Chaos, quote that 81percent of sales that close, close on or after the fifth contact. Keeping in front of your prospect is crucial and this is a very easy system to automate process.

Always remember, people buy when they are ready, and that is not necessarily when you are ready to sell to them!
