If you’re even a novice to email marketing, how many times have you heard the saying?

“It’s all in the list”

But wouldn’t that mean that the richest people on the internet are the ones that obtain the largest lists?
I’ve seen marketers that have a list ranging from 100k to 3 million, and they weren’t rich at all. So maybe it’s not in the list, but perhaps it’s in the communication with the list? This is getting closer to the core, but still misses the golden nugget.

The true answer is the “relationship” that you have with that list. It’s how well the mailing list trusts you, and sees you as the center of the niche. So start developing that rapport with the list, see them as individuals that they want to be.

Tips on creating the rapport:

- The one thing that so many email marketers miss out on is creating that “one to one” conversation with the list. Stop talking to them like a herd, and start writing your email like you’re writing to one person.

- When you finish writing your email (this makes a world of a difference) write something like “hey listen, just so you know I’m a real guy - don’t be afraid to send me an email at ‘jimmy@jimmy.com’ every now and then if you have any questions”. This makes you seem like you’re an actual guy that’s not hiding behind a no-reply address and it seems like you’re a social able and friendly guy.

- Once they do send a question, always reply starting off with something like “Sorry It took me a while to reply, it’s because my inbox has been jam packed and I’ve just been having so much fun going through and answering everyone’s emails”. This further adds to your nice guy attitude, but also makes you seem like you’re an authority in your niche because other people are emailing for your advice, and that you LOVE what you’re doing because you have fun answering their emails.

Implement these tips and you’ll have gained an enormous amount of trust between you and your mailing list which the majority of email marketers will never achieve in their life time.
