Successful Email Marketing Tips! The Skinny on Email Marketing and List Building

Ok, here’s the skinny. Obviously we all know that some online businesses succeed and some fail, just like those in real life. However, unlike real life businesses, online businesses fail for different reasons sometimes. One of the reasons is ineffective email marketing. However, I’m going to try and give you a leg up! In this particular article, I’m gonna talk about strategies for email marketing; in particular is opt-in list building. Sometimes it can be tricky, but hopefully this will help. So let’s get started!

One of the first things you should do is use a target email list. However don’t just go buying up lists from brokers and dropping them into email software all willy-nilly. Chances are you’re going to have to do some research. It’s necessary for list building. Remember to basically speak right to your target group. Draw them in. Now, if you can’t find a particular list to use, just build your own! Just DO NOT FORGET, to ask their permission. Without such, you’re just a spammer, and no-one wants that, especially if you’re trying to get customers. You can do such fairly easily by using what’s called a lead capture form. This is basically the “opt-in” portion of the process. Also there are some ad sites you can put on your opt-in form, some are free and they can all be seen by the subscribers to the ad site. If I’m correct (which I may not be) these came about due to Google Ad and the resulting controversy. Who knew?

Another way to get people hooked in is by using some razzle-dazzle to make your email subject titles pop out and shine without sounding too much like spam. Like I said before, no-one wants that, especially not you as the marketer for your business. Use action-provoking subject lines. For instance, which sounds more legit, “Targeted Opt-In Email List Direct Marketing” or “3 tips for getting 100 leads in a day?” I myself think that the second one seems more gripping.

Also, don’t don’t don’t don’t don’t don’t don’t DON’T forget to get a website. If you have one already then kudos and good job, just don’t neglect it. It’s a big mistake a lot of online businesses make and it basically ruins them. If you don’t have a site already, then get one. It’s like this: as a business owner, you need a web site! You need a place to send your clients after they’ve done business with you the first time. It doesn’t have to be fancy. It can be a one page site, or even a simple blog site. You can get WordPress blog software installed for free. Really all that is required is that you have a domain and hosting which you can grab for lower than $10 a month these days. Select someone to publish it for you if you are not able to do it yourself. You may locate web developers at elance.com that design a simple site for you for less than $100. Easy peasy!

Your next step is to get yourself a email marketing service. See, once you have your website up and running online, you need to sign up with an email marketing service. Lots of these exist and most are pretty good. One that is very popular these days is aweber.com. You can host as many email lists as you want for under $20 per month, and once you sign up they have tutorials that will teach you how to run their system. You can create an opt-in box for sign ups and they even give you the html code to put on your site.

Oh, almost forgot to mention this too: once you have the sign up box on your site or what-have-you, offer something free to those who sign up. Use an email newsletter to advertise coupons and specials and stuff for those who sign up. Remember, they’re your customers, treat them right.
